Tub Ring Clips
Procedure for Gathering Failure Confirmation Data
- Unplug the washer.
- Lift the lid and look at the white plastic ring at the top of the basket. Grab hold of the plastic tub ring and determine if it is loose. A tub ring that has separated from the tub disables the snubber and nothing is damping out the wild oscillations of an unbalanced tub during spin.
- If the white plastic tub ring is loose, procede to the replacement procedure.
Tub Ring Replacement Procedure
- Pull the washer away from the wall.
- (Figure 1) Get a putty knife and slide it in between the top and the cabinet about 2.5" in from each corner to release the clips holding the top down. Push in and pull up on the knife to release the clips. Don't use a screwdriver for this step or you will damage the washer finish.
- Lift the washer top up and slowly swing it back against the wall behind the washer.
- (Figure 2) Locate the snubber and spring assembly that is resting on the tub ring in the rear right hand corner of the cabinet.
- Remove the 1/2 inch nut securing the snubber spring and swing the snubber off the tub ring and out of its slot in the cabinet.
- Compress the clamp on the water inlet hose and slide it down the hose a couple of inches. Pull the hose off the water inlet which is setting on top of the white plastic tub ring. Bend the hose back and secure it out of the way by sliding it behind the tub support rod.
- Unsnap any remaining tub ring clips and lift the tub ring off the tub including the rubber gasket.
- Replace the rubber gasket in the tub ring if neccessary.
- Position the tub ring back on the tub so that the snubber plate will be under the snubber and the tub ring clips will drop into their slots in the top of the tub ring.
- Locate the tub ring clips. They probably fell down under the washer. If you don't have enough (at least 4), take one down to your appliance parts store and get enough to put clips in all slots around the tub. If all the clips are not in place, the tub ring could come off again.
- Replace the water inlet hose and slide the clamp back in place.
- Replace the snubber spring and snubber.
- Lower the cabinet top and push down on it until the cabinet clips snap into place.
